Field Force in Cinema 4D allows you to drive the motion of dynamic objects using custom vector fields and falloff layers. It provides powerful control over simulations by letting you influence direction, strength, and flow of forces.

What It Is

  • Field Force Object: Directs simulation behavior by applying velocity vectors from fields.
  • Works with MoGraph, Rigid Bodies, Cloth, Softbody, Particles, and more.
  • Supports directional sources like splines, object normals, or other fields.
  • Uses standard field layers (e.g., Random, Shader, Linear, etc.) for versatile effects.

How It Works

  1. Create a Field Force object from the Simulate → Forces menu.
  2. In the Field Force attributes, set a Direction Source (e.g., Spline, Object, Field Layer).
  3. Add field layers (like Random or Shader) to define force strength and area of influence.
  4. Adjust blending mode (Add, Average, etc.) and direction type (Velocity Change or Absolute Velocity).
  5. Apply to any dynamics system by placing the Field Force object in the scene.
  6. Play the timeline to see affected dynamics in motion and tweak settings as needed.

Use Cases

  • Driving particles or clones along a spline path.
  • Creating vortexes, turbulence, or flow fields.
  • Controlling cloth or softbody movement using animated fields.
  • Designing stylized or natural simulations using layered field effects.

Benefits

  • Highly customizable and procedural control over simulations.
  • Integrates with the entire Fields system in Cinema 4D.
  • Supports both directional and magnitude-based control.
  • Works across MoGraph, Simulation, and Particle tools.
