Animation Timeline
Cinema 4D
2 January 2023
Animation Timeline in Cinema 4D is the core tool for managing keyframes, tracks, and motion data for objects, parameters, and rigs. It offers both a simplified Dope Sheet and a detailed F-Curve view for precise animation editing.
What It Is
- The main workspace for editing animation over time.
- Includes Dope Sheet (keyframe overview) and F-Curve (graph editor) modes.
- Displays all animated properties and their keyframes.
- Lets you control playback, timing, easing, and hierarchy.
How It Works
- Open the Timeline from Window → Timeline (Dope Sheet) or press Shift + F3.
- Select objects to view or add keyframes.
- Use the Dope Sheet to manage keyframes and tracks.
- Switch to F-Curve Mode for fine-tuning animation curves (easing, tangents).
- Use tools like Ghosting, Motion Clips, and Markers for advanced control.
Use Cases
- Animating object movement, rotation, and scaling.
- Character animation and rig control.
- Camera movements and transitions.
- Adjusting timing and easing for motion graphics.
Benefits
- Precise keyframe control and timing adjustments.
- Visual overview of all animated elements.
- Advanced curve editing for smoother and more natural motion.
- Organizes complex animations with layers and groups.
