3D Dynamic HUD Rings in Cinema 4D – Animate dynamic rings using the mograph tools in Cinema 4D – Includes C4D and Redshift project file.
This tutorial was requested by Peter (one of our awesome Lifetime Members) who wanted to recreate something similar to the effects here created by Reframe Studio in Korea for Olive Young.
Here’s how to set it up:
Create the Base Ring:
- Add a TUBE object and adjust the handle to make it thinner.
- Enable the SLICE setting and set it to 270 degrees to cut out a 90-degree wedge.
Cloning the Rings:
- Place the TUBE object into a CLONER.
- Change the cloning mode to LINEAR and set the number of clones to 5.
Randomizing the Clones:
- Add a RANDOM EFFECTOR to randomize the scale, position, and rotation.
- Disable POSITION and enable UNIFORM SCALE for randomizing the scale.
- Add another random effector to randomize the rotation and position over time, renaming it to MOVEMENT.
Animate the Rings:
- Use a FIELD with a SHADER FIELD and a NOISE SHADER to add random animation.
- Set the ANIMATION SPEED to 1 and apply a CURVE to smooth out the animation.
Positioning the Rings:
- Add a PLAIN EFFECTOR to control the position.
- Use a LINEAR FIELD set to the +Y axis to animate the rings’ movement.
- Keyframe the LINEAR FIELD position to animate the rings moving up and down.
Fine-Tuning the Movement:
- Adjust the timing of the keyframes to control the speed and the number of beats.
- Copy keyframes and reverse them to make the rings return to the original position.
Add Overshoot and Springy Motion:
- Add a DELAY EFFECTOR to create springy motion.
- Adjust the strength of the delay to make the rings move with overshoot.
Modify Clone Count and Spacing:
- Adjust the number of clones and their positioning to create the desired look.
- Enable the DELAY EFFECTOR again after making adjustments to keep the effect intact.
Optional Dynamic Interaction:
- Add a RIGID BODY TAG to the CLONER to make the rings interact dynamically.
- Adjust the collision search radius and enable FOLLOW POSITION and ROTATION to prevent rings from intersecting.
Final Adjustments and Review:
- Tweak any remaining values and play through the animation to ensure smooth transitions and interactions.
- Save and export the final animation.
