Hay ball plastic wrapping

I just recently got cgshortcut mails about the realistic plastic wrapping tutorial.
And that reminded me about a challenge i never manage to quite do.

I have added a reference video from youtube. And in the first minute you can see the machine wrapping the hay ball in plastic.

One aspect is the physic and simulation of this, the other part is the dispensing and layering of the plastic.

I am curious how Dave or any of you other guys would go about this task.

    Hey Mats,

    It could be tricky to get a cloth sim to play nicely wrapping over and over like that, especially at that speed.

    Maybe you could slow everything down to avoid explosions and speed up a baked Alembic after.

    Maybe you can roll up some cloth and as the contraption spins it unrolls and the unrolled part becomes dynamic (using a map in the Mix Animation).

    I might have a crack at it when I get a chance.
